Law & Grace for Adultery
“Law & Grace”
There can be no doubt that we are so much better off under grace than under the law. It would be unthinkable to try and go back under the law as Paul implied. All have sinned and deserve eternity in Hell. But thanks to grace we have redemption from law and sin through Jesus Christ. The law was the schoolmaster that taught us God’s right and wrong and revealed man’s sin. Death however comes from the law and life from God’s amazing grace. If God destroyed everyone on earth who deserved it there would be no one left but extremely young babies. The law had a purpose to serve and we are thankful for it.
Let us imagine life today under the law rather than grace. Let’s suppose execution by stoning was the rule of the day for adulterers. It is believed that much more than fifty percent of men and women have been guilty of adultery. The following things would happen.
While all this sounds as if the world would be better under the law, religious leaders would also pervert this system. True justice is seldom done in this world. However, God is the perfect judge and all must have and need God’s mercy and love as shown and provided for on Calvary. If the world suddenly went back under the law and stoned all adulterers and illicit sexual behavior there would probably not be enough stones and the blood bath would be unthinkable.
The real solution to the problem of persecution done to the victims of adulterous mates is solved with better leadership in our churches and denominations. This better leadership must demonstrate the love and mercy of Christ to those who have wrongly suffered the traumas of divorce. Check out our Online Bookstore, "The Church: Divorce & Remarriage."
